Aplicando gestão de energia ao protocolo de roteamento para redes ad hoc móveis VRP

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a wireless network that does not use any kind of pre-existent infrastructure. Routing in such networks must establish routes in a distributed and self-organized fashion, and should consider nodes mobility. As mobile units are battery dependents, it is important to minimize energy consumption. Studies show that the network interface is one of the major energy consumer. One possible way to minimize the energy consumption is through routing protocols that optimize the message flow, using strategically chosen routes. This dissertation presents a study of the applicability of energy management using flow balance over the Virtual Routing Protocol (VRP). VRP main advantage is the higher delivery rates, but, it is achieved through a high energy consumption. Applying energy management to VRP minimizes this problem while maintaining the delivery ratio. Several simulations and comparisons where made using GloMoSim simulator comparing the VRP, with and without energy management, with DSR and AODV. Is is possible to conclude that VRP without energy management is more expensive, in terms of energy consumption, when compared with these other protocols. While VRP with energy management has an energy consumption as good as DSR and AODV. Another contribution in this study is to show that the flow balance is a simple and efficient technic that can be exploited to reduce the energy consumption in MANETs.
