Dependability and Management: the focus is the development of solutions that guarantee the reliability and operation of wireless ad hoc networks as well as overlay networks in presence of accidental events and misbehavior events. Protocols, services, applications and, particularly, network management systems should provide mechanisms in order to prevent or/and tolerate given failure kinds, as well as operation themselves.

Routing and Effective Energy Control: routing protocols on wireless and advanced networks need to take into account several exclusive characteristics, such as dynamic topology and energy consumption. As traditional routing proposals do not provide effective control on networks with dynamic topology or severe limitations on energy consumption, this research line has investigated effective, scalable, low overhead routing solutions that do not compromise the resource of the network elements, improving thus the network lifetime.

Network Security: wireless and overlay networks inherit all traditional security issues present in fixed networks. Further they can be mobile, multi-hop, and suffer from the lack of infra-structure, emerging new security problems. This research line investigates solutions to mitigate or even avoiding such attacks in order to assure their correct operation.
