DEPENDABLE AND SECURE VANETS FOR ITS

This project aims at developing a scientific network, consisting of computer science and engineering scientists, around security and dependability aspects of wireless Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) for supporting the successful deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs). It will permit to share different points of view and approaches for developing and evaluating a secure and robust architecture for VANETs. The architecture will comprise algorithms, protocols, models and mechanisms for improving security and dependability. Particularly, the project will focus on security and reliability issues existent on lower layers of the protocol stack, as physical, link, MAC and routing, and the implications of these layers onVANET’s applications. Analytical models, simulations and experimentations will be considered to evaluate the architecture. Findings of this project will be published in Technical Reports,International Conference and Journals.

Beyond international and cross-fertilization results like joint scientific papers, we aim at developing:

  • An architecture for secure and dependable VANETs, highlighting the requirements toachieve both of them simultaneously and employing a cross-layer approach;
  • A set of algorithms, mechanisms or protocols supported by UMPMs and tacklingsecurity and reliability issues on physical, link and routing layers of the protocol stack;
  • A set of analytical and simulation models, to make ease the evaluation of solutionsproposed on this project;
  • At least, 2 conference papers per year, 2 papers submitted to Journals at the end of the project, 2 Technical Reports reporting about results from the collaboration.
